Contrary to many people’s assumptions, making a will need not be difficult or expensive.  Moreover, it can give peace of mind that, when you die, your property will be distributed in accordance with your wishes, managed by people (“executors”) of your choosing.

Would you consider leaving a legacy to the Church Association for Sudan and South Sudan in your will?

• A specific legacy is the gift of a particular item such as jewellery, property or shares.

• Alternatively, you may leave a residuary legacy which is the gift of all, or a proportion, of the remainder (“residue”) of your estate once your other wishes have been accommodated.

How do I leave a legacy to the Church Association for Sudan and South Sudan in my will?

We strongly recommend that you instruct a solicitor to draw up your will.  He or she will need to know the Church Association for Sudan and South Sudan’s full name, charity number (1180881 ) and registered address (76 Warminster Road, Bath, BA2 6RU).

What if I already have a will?

It is a simple matter to amend a will by means of a supplementary document called a “codicil”.  A codicil is typically a short, simple document costing less than a will.  Your solicitor will be able to advise you about this.

Do I need to inform the Church Association for Sudan and South Sudan about the legacy in my will?

You do not need to inform us if you make a gift to the Church Association for Sudan and South Sudan in your will.  However, if you do choose to let us know, this will both encourage us and help us as we plan for the future!  Any information you give us will be treated confidentially and is not legally binding.

Can I set up an in memoriam fund?

Yes!  This is where you ask people to make their own donations to the Church Association for Sudan and South Sudan in your memory. Just ask your solicitor to include this in your will.
